The Minimo is a folding mobility scooter that uniquely doesn’t require any disassembly for transport. Its extremely compact lightweight design means it is easy to store and transport between locations.
The Minimo can be folded in seconds using just one hand, with only the lightweight battery needing removal. Once folded, the Minimo measures 34 x 21.5 x 18 inches, making it one of the most compact scooters available. It can be stood upright to further save on space, and uniquely can be wheeled around, saving on lifting. This makes it perfect for those looking to travel with a scooter, whether by coach, air or on cruises. It is also ideal for those with limited storage space – a common problem for those in London and the south east.
Weighing 25.7 kg without batteries, it can be lifted into and out of a car. However, this is significantly heavier than standard boot scooters that can disassemble, which usually have a heaviest part weighing no more than 15 kg. The Minimo realistically needs two able-bodied people to lift into and out of a car, meaning it is not ideal for those looking to do this by themselves – however, it is perfect for hoisting, with no complex disassembly required.
We supply the Minimo as standard with super-lightweight Lithium Ion batteries, which weigh just 2.8 kg, to further save on weight – either 11.5 Ah (suitable for air travel) or 14.5 Ah (not suitable for air travel, but with a longer range). Regular AGM batteries are also available at a slight cost reduction – however, as these are significantly heavier, we would not recommend them.
The distinct wheel arrangement, with twin front wheels, gives the Minimo the manoeuvrability of a three-wheel scooter – including a stunning 32 inch turning radius, while the twin wheels and anti-tips ensures it doesn’t have the stability issues found on some three-wheel scooters.
While lacking the amount of seat padding found on some other scooters, the Minimo does have an impressive amount of leg room, allowing it to accommodate taller users, while the 18 stone weight capacity is surprisingly high considering the nature of the scooter. The seat does not rotate, which for some people may make embarking and disembarking trickier.
The Minimo is best suited to people lacking storage space either in their home or their car, or who want a scooter to travel with. It is better suited to lighter users, who will get the best performance out of it, and fit comfortably into the seat. It is available for purchase and long-term hire, and also on the Motability scheme, and comes in either bronze or white. It has now been largely supplanted by the Minimo Plus 4, which offers improved comfort and stability, whilst remaining incredibly light and foldable.
